'One night @ the call center': Thinking Activity

Literary analysis

#Effect of Globalization in on@tcc?

Chetan Bhagat's most of the novels deals with contemporary issues. Young urban middle-class people. He is a twentieth century writer, and knows well that how to sold his books. In his novel One Night at the Call Centre, there is some aspects of modern India. People are working in call centres, so, title itself suggest that writer included several contemporary issues of modern India. Globalization is an economic development, everyone is struggle with their personal angst, the problems which are the causes of globalization.

I’m tired of job hunting. There is nothing good out there. And I’m tired

of rejections. Moreover, what is the point of joining another call center? I’ll
just have to start as a junior agent all over again—without you, without my
friends. And let me tell you this, I may not be team leader, but I am happy I
am content. You realize that?

Globalization can be considered as a step towards the modernization. Where a middle-class man have job issue, love issues and have to struggle with everyday's problems. Fredrick Jameson's "Notes on globalization" as a philosophical issue. There is nothing like globalization in the novel. All are facing different kinds of problems. Friedman's 'The world is flat' note on globalization. People are working in such sectors, call centres, where they don't get better opportunity but it's just temporary jobs. With the help of a novel writer mocks at the movement of globalization.

#Narrative structure of the novel. Compare with 'Life of Pi'.

One night at the Call Centre, follows the narrative patterns like prologue, epilogue
But it's not considered as highly recommend. Yann Martel's 'Life if Pi, in the novel God element is center. Parallel things in popular literature like, historical sense, mythical sense. Whatever shows in beginning is related to ending, that are not found in on@tcc.

Life of Pi is compared to on@tcc. The narrative structure is similar in both the novel, in Chetan Bhagat's novel Shyam is narrated whereas in Life of Pi, protagonist is telling the story. Two stories being told, story within story, where one has the presence of God and second has not. So, on@tcc parallel to Life of Pi. But it has no profoundity like Martel's novel.

#On@tcc self-help book....

Self-help book are written with the intention to instruct the readers on a numbers of personal problems. It presents that characters are solving their problems. Call from God, it represents the of 'inner call'. God not give the direct advice but it is shown as call within self. Characters emerges with self confidence. They facing failures. There are such things which should be remembered •come out from failures, •intelligence, •know what you want. In the prologue writer ask three questions,

   One thing I fear:

One thing that makes me angry:

One thing I do not like about myself:

Which can be relates with self-help book.

#On@cc can be categorized as Cyburpunk...

It is subgenre of science fiction. Information technology, such programs like Microsoft office. We can find some aspects of cyberpunk in the novel. People are working in call centre, which is related with cyber technology. In Microsoft word there is a bug which is a strategy to blackmail the Americans, operation Yankee fear.
(To open an empty MSWord file, and type in =rand (200, 99) and press enter. If a lot of text pops comes out, that means there is a virus.) So, it is solution for them and novel considered as a cyberpunk.

Thank you...:)

Structuralism and Literary Criticism: Gerard Genette

Thinking activity: Structuralism and Literary Criticism ➧  Being a structuralist critic, how would you analyse literary text or TV serial or Film? You can select any image or TV serial or film or literary text or advertisement. Apply structuralist method and post your write up on your blog. Give link of that blog-post in the comment section under this blog. In literary theory , structuralism is an approach to analyzing the narrative material by examining the underlying invariant structure. For example:-  A literary critics should apply one type of pattern or structure in their writings. They don't applying something new or we can say something unique in their writings.  Like  Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In both texts a girl and a boy fall in love (a "formula" with a symbolic operator between them would be "Boy + Girl") despite the fact that they belong to two groups that hate each other ("Boy's Group - Girl's Group...

T.S.Eliot : Tradition and Individual Talent

Thinking Activity on Tradition and Individual Talent 1.  How would you like to explain Eliot's concept of Tradition? Do you agree with it?                                 Yes, I'm agree with the Eliot's views. He point out the tradition as that the tradition is matter of much wider significance. It cannot be inherited, you must obtained it by  great labour. Talent has no connections with the inhabitants, we have to work hard to catch the talent.                   Being a part of tradition we have to do great labour, it involves historical sense which involves appreciation not only of the pastness of past but also it's presence. 2  What do you understand by Historical Sense?                 " The historical sense involves a perception, not only of the pastness of the past, but of its pre...
