Movie review: The Reluctant Fundamentalist

The Reluctant Fundamentalist

As a part of academics, we have seen this movie. 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' novel written by Mohsin Hamid and directed by Mira Nair. It is about attack of 9/11, how it changes opinion towards the man, who are relatedly innocent. It symbolises the postcolonial aspects, Americans are doubted on ones dignity, morality. It also includes how market fundamentalism plays a vital role. It speaks fundamental truths.

It begins with kidnapping of one American, and whole plot is based on the interview of one Pakistani citizen Changez Khan, the  interview was taken by Bobby Lincoln. Changez Khan is main suspect of the entire fiction. It is a frame narration, 'story within story'. Changez goes to America for doing job after completing his study. Everything was very nice until the attack, he got promotion, everyone was his friend, he had one girlfriend also, it seems like everything was so good, but after attack of 9/11 everything was charged. People were doubted on him. Even his girlfriend's behaviour was also changed.

During the attack, Changez smiles at once on destruction of building, it symbolises that unconsciously we are wanted that someone take a revenge of our harrassment. But he readily accepts that thing.

As postcolonial aspect, one event was very significant, at the airport he has been checked by the cops, it raises the question on his dignity. During all these things he remained silent, but after that he decided to return Pakistan, we can say how he frustrated.

Istanbul, which is mixture of East and West, we can find their European settlement and Muslim culture at a same place.

At the last Bobby who was interviewe, and the agent of American agency, who accidentally killed one Pakistani who friend of Changez. It shows how Americans killed minutely anyone for their purpose.

So, movie represents that how Americans treated Muslims, American known for giving opportunity to others, also known as Salad Bowl, but here we need to think that, it actually right or not. In 'New York', which directed by Kabir Khan, it has same aspects of like this movie. John Abraham, played role of Muslim and suffering same kind of harrassment.  It has many points of postcolonial study.

Thank you....

Structuralism and Literary Criticism: Gerard Genette

You can select any image or TV serial or film or literary text or advertisement. Apply structuralist method and post your write up on your blog. In literary theory , structuralism is an approach to analyzing the narrative material by examining the underlying invariant structure. For example:-  A literary critics should apply one type of pattern or structure in their writings. They don't applying something new or we can say something unique in their writings.  Like  Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. T.S.Eliot : Tradition and Individual Talent

Thinking Activity on Tradition and Individual Talent 1.  How would you like to explain Eliot's concept of Tradition? Do you agree with it?                                 Yes, I'm agree with the Eliot's views. He point out the tradition as that the tradition is matter of much wider significance. It cannot be inherited, you must obtained it by  great labour. Talent has no connections with the inhabitants, we have to work hard to catch the talent.                   Being a part of tradition we have to do great labour, it involves historical sense which involves appreciation not only of the pastness of past but also it's presence. 2  What do you understand by Historical Sense?                 " The historical sense involves a perception, not only of the pastness of the past, but of its pre...
